"Waterloo Region leaders made an impressive showing at the Ontario EY (Ernst & Young) Entrepreneur of the Year Awards this week.
The annual celebration, held Thursday in Toronto, honoured four people whose achievements here have made a significant impact provincially and beyond.
The four are:
- Governor General David Johnston, former president of the University of Waterloo, who won the 20th anniversary EY Entrepreneur Of The Year Supporter of Entrepreneurship Award, for his steadfast support of entrepreneurship in Ontario
- John Baker, founder and CEO of Desire2Learn, who was named Entrepreneur of the Year in the software and technology category for D2L’s cloud-based learning management software used by more than 10 million learners worldwide
- Matt Rendall, co-founder and CEO of Clearpath Robotics, whose unmanned vehicle systems are sold in 25 countries
- Alex Mustakas, artistic director and CEO of Drayton Entertainment, which operates seven live theatres in six Ontario locations
