Uptown Waterloo has done a lot in the past few years to revitalize itself and make it one of the top retailing spaces in the region.

This morning MappedIn officially launched their free mobile wayfinding app for the UpTown Business Improvement Area.  Waterloo is on the map as the first BIA in Ontario to offer the app.

Tourists and residents will be able to navigate and discover 400 different retailers who are part of the core. The wayfinding app, available for iOS, Android, and BlackBerry 10, will also keep people informed on promotions, events, and available amenities.

MappedIn, a local company based out of the Hub, has experienced huge success since their time on Dragon’s Den. The company already has kiosks in Conestoga Mall, Communitech, Casino Rama, the Sheridan Centre and the University of Waterloo.

Uptown Waterloo is the first outdoor space that MappedIn has created navigation for. Mapping the outdoor space was possible through their partnership, which combines data maintained by the BIA with basemaps from Esri’s ArcGIS Online cloud platform.

Kayla Oliveira, Community Manager for MappedIn values the partnership with the UpTown BIA. “It was about the fit, they are big with promoting their businesses and tying the community together,” she said.
