Waterloo, ON., July 13, 2021 – Toxon Technologies has quietly revolutionized the archery industry this year by putting archery data in the palm of your hand. With the Open Source Data Platform into the sport, now any archer has access to thousands of data points from their bow for every shot they take.

Toxon Technologies launched BOWdometer, a 'FitBit for your bow', in 2020. At a glance, it attaches to your bow, counts shots and gives instant feedback on consistency of movement shot over shot. But under the surface, there's a much bigger piece of technology at play.

The Toxon Tech team has a long background building high-tech digital electronics from the ground up. The founding team spent 15 years building BlackBerry Smartphones, where co-founder Joe Deu-Ngoc has the distinction of making the first phone call from a BlackBerry ever.

"When we built BOWdometer, it was a starting point on a journey to use sensors on bows to elevate the sport and the industry," said Marianne Bell, COO of Toxon Technologies. "From the beginning, our goal was to bring the power of data and analytics to the industry in a way that's accessible for anyone to use."

With the BOWdometer Open Platform, anyone can access live, raw sensor data and/or any of the BOWdometer Algorithms in real-time through a REST API. Developers don't need to know anything about wireless communications, hardware interfacing or embedded systems. "We've done the hard work people interested in using shot data don't have to start from scratch," Bell added. "It's important to us that the community can build and customize anything they can dream of!"

Currently there are over a dozen developers around the world using the BOWdometer Open Platform for various projects. Most notably, Artemis (the premier high performance training app) and Archery Success (a leading scoring app) are adding features to their app that work with the BOWdometer product to help track training progress and provide real-time feedback to help detect issues with bow canting and torque.

Other developers are working on coaching platforms, shot timing analysis, gamification for archery-inspired events and comparing bow vibrations across various bowhunting setups from different manufacturers.

The BOWdometer Open Platform is available to the public now - all you need is a BOWdometer Archery Practice Companion and the BOWdometer Mobile App, which is free on Google Play and the App Store. You can buy a BOWdometer at your local archery shop or online at shop.bowdometer.com. To get started with the Open Platform, head to bowdometer.com/open-platform.
