I want to stop in and say hi. I’m Kayleigh Platz, Communitech’s Community Relations Manager. I’m a lifelong Waterloo Region resident who frankly thinks this region rocks.
Working at the Communitech Hub means I have a ringside seat to all the amazing companies and people building cool stuff. It’s pretty overwhelming every day to watch great people design their own future. People work incredibly hard here. But we all know that all work and no play doesn’t make a healthy life.
So at the end of the workday you can find me out and about, making connections in the community, with people and groups who are writing the Waterloo Region story. I’m never bored here.
And I want to share with you what I see and hear around our region, because no one should be left wondering, “What is there to do here?” Every Wednesday I’ll be highlighting events you shouldn’t miss, organizations you should know about and connections you need to make.
So sit back, relax and let me help fill in your social events calendar.
I see and hear that… the CAFKA.14 Biennial officially opened on May 31. The opening party was reportedly epic, but don’t worry if you missed out – CAFKA’s various exhibits run for the rest of June throughout the region. Of special note is the work by CAFKA-Christie artists-in-residence Ruth Gibson and Bruno Martelli, In Search of Abandoned, which is showing in Christie’s HIVE virtual reality space at the Communitech Hub… It’s Ontario Craft Beer week… and you can indulge in great local brew at a variety of places including Beertown, Imbibe and The Bent Elbow (these are also great places to catch a World Cup game or two)… on June 19, Women who Code Waterloo is hosting a Hack Night at Clearpath Robotics. Women are encouraged to come out and work on their own projects… and finally, the Cities of Waterloo and Kitchener are lighting up the uptown and downtown this Saturday during Summer Lights festival – an evening of exploration, art and music. The event starts at dusk on June 21.
