Many congrats go to the nominees and winners of last week’s Junior Achievement Business Spirit Awards. The second annual awards ceremony, hosted by Junior Achievement of Waterloo Region, recognized six organizations that ‘embody the spirit of JA: entrepreneurship, mentorship, business success and community giving.’

A few highlights from the evening …

    • Recognizing a company that is ‘outstanding in all areas of business,’ the Business of the Year Award was presented to Miovision Technologies Inc. Miovision has seen steady growth in staff and revenue over the past three years, while their customer base has expanded to more than 30 countries.
    • The Entrepreneur of the Year Award was presented to Sweet Tooth, whose loyalty software for eCommerce merchants has captivated more than 2,100 merchants worldwide.
    • Communitech was honoured with the Mentorship Award, with a focus on our Venture Services Group and HYPERDRIVE program. What a privilege it was to be in the category among many fantastic nominees–including our friends at VeloCity and SiliconW!

Other wins of the evening included:

    • JA Program Award (student award) - Power Grow

Nominees for the evening included the Perimeter Institute of Theoretical Physics (Caring For Youth), COM DEV International (Corporate Citizen), Fibernetics (Business of the Year) and Formulating Change (Entrepreneur of the Year) … to name only a few!

Again, congrats to all, and thank you for JA Waterloo Region for a fantastic night showcasing local success!
