Hot on the heels of its relaunch as Magnet Forensics, the Waterloo company formerly known as JADsoftware has been named one of Canada's hottest startups by PROFIT Magazine.

Magnet, whose software enables forensic investigators to gather evidence from various forms of online communication, made #16 on the PROFIT HOT 50, an annual list that ranks early-stage companies by two-year revenue growth.

In Magnet's case, that growth has been a whopping 549 per cent, to nearly $650,000 last year from less than $100,000 in 2009.

PROFIT has the full story on how Jad Saliba, a former forensics examiner with the Waterloo Region police, built an evidence-finding tool now in use by many of the world's best-known law enforcement agencies.
