We're getting loud and rowdy this week at the Communitech Mic Nite. Alongside our presenting partner, the City of Kitchener, we're excited for a night of great music, fine drinks and valuable connections as startups battle for your vote in our audience-choice pitch competition.
If you're attending there's probably a few details you want to know:
Location
We're hosting Mic Nite in a brand new location. We'll see you at 119 King St W (beside the CBC). Meet us on the third floor of this newly renovated space. Follow the sound of music to find us. Special thanks to our venue partner Perimeter Development Corporation.
Entertainment
We like live music at our parties. We especially like local and talented musicians. Get ready to be entertained by The Urban Monks.
The Urban Monks. Deemed to be, at times, “eerily like the Beatles” by CBC Radio, Pete Oldridge, singer and songwriter of The Urban Monks, has never shied away from admitting the foursome are his primary influence. Among his infectious pop riffs and melodies, Oldridge also nods to Bob Dylan, the Beach Boys, Arcade Fire and Spoon. The ’60s influence that is apparent at first listen is accompanied by an eclecticism that makes this band worthwhile. Some songs are upbeat, some quiet, all the while each song seems effortlessly laced with smart lyrics and catchy melodies that make you dance.
Pitches
What would a pitch competition be without some amazing companies? We don't want to share too much information, but check out a few of the companies that will battling it out. You'll meet all 15 companies on Mic Nite!
