A real-life boxing ring brought an extra dose of excitement to Communitech’s second Startup Smackdown on Thursday night, this time at the Kitchener Market.
In usual form, Waterloo Region entrepreneurs Mark McArdle and Carol Leaman brought their A-game as judges. The chemistry between the two was reminiscent of an 80’s buddy-cop sitcom, as one attendee suggested on Twitter.
New to the judging panel was Steven Cox from Strategic Innovation Works, alongside Y Combinator’s Garry Tan, who brought some Silicon Valley wisdom to the startups pitching.
All 11 companies gave great pitches, but Kite managed to win over the tough judging panel with their cloud-hosted workspace for web app development.
