Supported by the Ontario Ministry of Energy and MaRS, the Energy Apps for Ontario Challenge is offering $50,000 in funding to software developers for the best apps that help Ontarians unlock the potential of Green Button-enabled electricity data. Green Button, started in the USA, is a standard which offers a secure way for consumers to access electricity data from their smart meters. Apps can help Ontario households and businesses better understand and manage their electricity use, so they can make informed decisions and take action.
The Eyedro team, located at the Communitech Hub in Waterloo Region, accepted the challenge and entered an upgraded version of its myFreeMonitor.com cloud service, that now supports Green Button Connect My Data. Electricity prices in Ontario will continue to rise so Green Button offers an easy method for Ontarians to better understand their electricity usage at no cost and no risk. Beyond Green Button, customers can upgrade to a real-time electricity monitor like Eyedro within the same myFreeMonitor.com cloud service that they've become familiar with.
