Who qualifies for this program?
Through the Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network (OVIN), a provincial program that supports the development and demonstration of automotive technologies and mobility solutions, Communitech offers specialized services for Ontario startups and scale-ups.
This includes projects related to any of the following areas:
- Solutions addressing Vision Zero (reduction in traffic related deaths and injuries)
- Automotive tech for electric, connected or autonomous vehicles
- Transportation related mobility tech (does not need to be on a vehicle)
- Sensor/internet of things tech applied to automotive sector
- Electrical infrastructure management and optimization

OpenHDMaps
Access a rich set of geospatial data.
OpenHDMaps is an innovative, non-proprietary platform for compiling the richest, most complete HD mapping dataset. It allows Ontario-based companies to engage with the autonomous vehicle ecosystem. Continuous improvements of HD mapping datasets are made through a co-operative, community-based process, and participating organizations continually share new data.

As Ontario’s flagship initiative for the automotive and mobility sector, the Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network (OVIN) is driving economic development and catalyzing a future that builds safer, cleaner and more efficient transportation.
The Regional Technology Development Sites (RTDS) support small-to-medium-sized companies to develop, test and prototype their advanced automotive technologies and smart mobility solutions, and tap into specific advice, expertise and knowledge around key focus areas for the sector.
The seven RTDS are located in Waterloo, Ottawa, Hamilton, Durham, Windsor-Essex, Toronto, Greater Sudbury, Thunder Bay, Timmins, Temiskaming Shores, Sault Ste. Marie and North Bay. Each regional site focuses on a unique aspect of the automotive and smart mobility sector, such as hardware, security, data analytics and more.
No, you do not need to be a member to apply to or participate in the OVIN program. Companies that are accepted into the program will have the opportunity to become Communitech members to access and receive other benefits.
The OVIN program is open to Ontario startups and scale-ups with fewer than 500 employees. Non-Ontario companies that meet the criteria are encouraged to reach out to get connected with suitable services and alternative support options.
